Three is a pretty amazing number. Have you ever noticed how commonly it pops up? Three steps to good writing. Three things to remember – faith, hope and love. Three little pigs. Why so many threes? Because three is the smallest number of items that create a pattern that’s easy for us to remember and recall.
So how does the Rule of Three apply to crafting? I teach my stampers that a good card has three steps:
If your project covers those areas, then you’re in good shape.
But the Rule of Three can also apply to areas as we design a project. Try working in triangles to coordinate card elements. On this Rose Garden Thinlits Dies project there are three areas of emphasis – the die cut birthday greeting from the Rose Wonder stamp set, the die cut rose and finally the doily/bow. Working in triangles helps our eye to move from element to element smoothly.
