Stamping 101: How to Create Collage Layering Cards with Bubble Over

To create a collage layered look, I like to pick 3-5 papers in coordinating (yet contrasting) colors and patterns. Usually I also pick a shape theme – either banners or rectangular shapes as opposed to a circle or oval pattern.  On this card I’ve featured the fun Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper (available as a FREE Sale-A-Bration selection).

Instead of sticking with strictly angles or curves though, I’ve gone with a mix – angles for the bottom layers with circle accents on top. This combination is perfect for the Bubble Over stamp set, since the coordinating Bottles & Bubbles Framelits Dies set includes a variety of fun circle die cut elements.

Wondering where the inverted die cut heart comes from (see it in Calypso Coral at the top left?)? This is actually a brilliant idea from one of the Stampin’ Up! concept artist cards – from which this design was taken. Instead of cutting out the small Whisper White heart and throwing away the scrap, I die cut the heart and then used the 3/4″ Circle Punch to punch a circle around the die cut shape – creating the heart-shaped ‘washer’ at the top left.

To color the punched piece Calypso Coral, I inked the larger bottle stamp and stamped it over the full punched element to finish the coordinating element.

  1. Hi Meg,

I think that this project really shows us crafters how to ‘think out of the box’ with smaller pieces of DSP rather than just using it for a background or layer. :O)

    • LOL – That’s what we need right? One more reason to save all those tiny scraps?? They’re definitely good for something though!! Sounds like a challenge ;) Happy Stamping! – Meg
