These last few days have been filled with stamping – and fun techniques that I can’t wait to share with you! First up on the list is today’s Ombre Alcohol Vellum Background – a technique featuring Stampin’ Blends Markers for breathtaking vellum layers. It’s a technique that produces wildly different results but I’ll share a few tips for getting the most consistent backgrounds.
Ombre Alcohol Vellum Technique
- Cut vellum to size and use Stampin Blends Markers to add color in a sequence.
- Use a Stampin Sprizter with 91% isopropyl alcohol to spritz a light layer of alcohol over the marker.
- Use a Water Painter (empty is fine) to dip into a container of alcohol and drip onto the spritzed vellum. Allow ink to travel and add more drops as desired. Optional: flick Wink of Stella over the wet vellum to add gold accents.
- Allow to air dry or use Heat Tool (from the back to avoid pushing ink or front to encourage pushing ink).
Know that this technique is pretty simple, but you’ll want to watch for a few pitfalls. First, go for the ‘right’ amount of spritzing. After inking the vellum, don’t over-wet the vellum with the alcohol from the Stampin Spritzer. Add just enough to see some wetness, but not enough to cause pooling. Second, big fat drops of alcohol to move the color around are ideal, but only use a few of them – again, avoid pooling. Third, if the alcohol does pool to the sides of the vellum, have a tissue ready to wick off the excess (don’t blot – just wick from the edge).
This card works beautifully with the Adhesive Sheets – perfect for adhering little bits like from the Forever Forest dies. And any silhouette die set will create a terrific finished card, but I’m pretty partial to the Forever Forest with the greeting from the Wanted To Say Dies.
Finally, be sure to stamp inside your card!
