Tips & Tricks: Candle Border Punch Birthday Cards

Happy Birthday!  This weekend we are celebrating two kid birthdays at our house, and another year full of adventures is the perfect wish!  This Balloon Adventures stamp set is a great one for greetings – and it coordinates with BOTH the Balloon Bouquet Punch and the Balloon Pop-Up Thinlit Dies.  Double win!

I have a couple of tips and tricks for you with this card.

Stamping Tip: Make Your Own Custom Stamp Shapes

With photopolymer stamps, did you know that you can curve the stamps as you apply them to the clear acrylic blocks?  You can!  The “let’s celebrate” greeting in this set is actually a straight line and doesn’t fit the Duet Banner Punch shape.  So instead of mounting it flat, I laid my punched card stock on the table, set my block on top of it and then used the card stock shape as a guide for curving my stamp as I applied it to the block.

Curved birthday image?  Check.

Stamping Tip: Add Color to the Candle Border Punch

The thought of gluing all those little flames and candles on a card is slightly intimidating to me.  So instead of using the punched pieces, I used the negative card stock for this card.  Cut the card stock to 3 1/2″ by 4 3/4″ for this insert, then punch the candles once at the bottom.  On the BACK of the Whisper White card stock, apply little strips of Crushed Curry card stock to cover the holes for the flames.

Easy peasy punched candle flames? Check.

And if you’re looking for a way to remember these tricks, here’s a custom pin – ready for you to add to Pinterest!

Hope you’re finding these tips helpful – I’ve been having so much fun with these stamps and this punch!
