Petal Passion and Stampin Blends Markers: A Simple How-To Tutorial

lots of lavender card idea

What gorgeous colors! Wait a minute. Isn’t that Petal Passion designer series paper usually just black and white? Want to hear the secret on creating your own custom colored papers?

The gorgeous ultra-saturated color on this project is created using the Stampin’ Blends Markers – if you haven’t gotten any yet, this is a great selection of colors to try. And the Petal Passion Paper includes these sheets perfect for coloring. (See more Stampin’ Blends ideas on my blog)

The Petal Passion paper I’ve used here is actually even cooler than ‘just perfect for coloring.’ The paper includes a built-in ‘how to use Stampin’ Blends’ tutorial.

What? How does that work??

I know – it’s pretty nifty. Thanks for the extra help, Stampin’ Up! artists!

Steps for Stampin’ Blends (with built-in Petal Passion Paper Tutorial):

  1. Begin by coloring the whole flower with the Light Stampin Blends Marker of your choice.
  2. With the matching Dark Stampin’ Blends Marker, go back and add a line of dark color right on top of the gray flower shading. Yup – no guessing on where the dark color goes – the ‘color here’ lines are included on the paper.
  3. Go back to the Light Stampin Blends Marker and color a little bit more on the transition between the light/dark color to blend the shades.

<<Important Stampin’ Blends Hint:>> Be sure to color the background so the saturated colors don’t bleed into the empty space around the leaves and flowers.

If you don’t color the background, you may see bleeding from the flowers and leaves into the background space.  Plus on a black and white themed card, the Smoky Slate background is a perfect match.

  1. Hi Meg,

What a great blog post. I thought your project was so pretty and I did recognise the DSP being the part of the Petal Palette Suite, but other crafters may not. Giving a mini colouring lesson with blender pens is a really good idea because there may be crafters who have not got alcohol pens because they are unsure how to use them. This doesn’t just need to be a blog post Meg you need to do a short video tutorial too and get the message out there! :O)
