I have a friend who requests these notebooks as class projects several times a year. She LOVES giving them as gifts! They’re so much fun to design and so simple to create at home. Plus they’re a gift that will last – and every time the recipient reaches into her purse to pull out her cute notebook, she’ll be thinking of YOU!
While I have lots of notebook ideas posted on my blog, this color combo is one of my favorites. The teal with black, white and silver go with so many themes, and the silver metallic accents pump up the bling factor. Add to the mix a fabulous butterfly stamp set (Watercolor Wings) and die cut (Butterflies Thinlits) and you can hardly go wrong.
Want to make your own notebooks of this size? Start with an 8-1/2″ by 11″ ruled pad. Take the pad to an office supply store and ask them to cut the pad down to 8-1/2″ by 8-1/2″, then cut it in half to create two 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″ pads. Voila! Most places will cut a stack of pads at the same time, so you can turn a set of 6 tablets into 12 notepads with just two cuts of that crazy-scary paper cutter at the store.
Cut a piece of coordinating Designer Series Paper to 3″ x 4-1/4″ and wrap it around the top of the pad binding to cover up the label and make it pretty (and match, of course!).
The sleeve for the notebook is an 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of card stock. Score at 4-1/4″, 4-1/2″ and 8-3/4″. You’ll wrap the sleeve around and attach it behind the notebook and adhere, then fold the extra flap over to create a pocket inside the notebook cover (not shown in my picture – but very cool)!

What a cool project! Love tge color combo too! I don’t get the sleeve part, though. Could you possibly share more pictures so that I can see what you mean by the sleeve? Thanks!
Sorry to be unclear Kelly – the 8.5 x 11″ paper wraps around the back of the notebook. It’s not so much a sleeve (in the way that you’d think about sliding a sleeve over) but more of a wrap. So the “wrap” covers both the front and the back of the notebook. I’m sure if you score an 8.5 x 11″ piece of card stock with the lines I put in the directions, it will all be pretty clear :)
