How To Use the Retiform Technique – Blending Brushes + Stampin’ Up!® Beach Boardwalk Suite

Beach-bright colors and summer sun are just around the corner and the Beach Boardwalk Suite shows these pastels off perfectly. The Boardwalk Fun stamps and dies are paired with the oldy-but-goody technique of retiform. Retiform means net-like and in stamping it means using masks to create a grid of color and texture. We’re featuring it today as a background technique, and you’re going to love the way colors can come together.

The tool of choice used to be a sponge for this technique, but in 20 years we’ve come a long way in stamping technology – and Blending Brushes are a MUCH better choice!

Plus don’t miss the tip in the video for using the Beach Boardwalk Puffy Stickers – straight out of the 1980’s, and my little trick (hint hint, Embossing Additions Tool Kit) for keeping the sticky from limiting your placement.

Don’t forget the inside of the card either – a stamped roller coaster adds to the fun.

The die cut elements create a fun silhouette – try these Boardwalk Fun dies in Basic Black or other dark colors to highlight the sihouette effect.

Finally, what do you think of the layer option? The Basic White background layer creates a clean contrast between the busy bright colors of the retiform layer and the Petunia Pop of the card base. Would you add the extra layer?
