Floral Hello: How to Soften Busy Designer Series Paper Patterns

Thinking of flowers in winter? Orchids are a great bet – perfect for stamping all year long. But don’t overpower these fragile blooms with designer paper that’s too busy, or you’ll lose the beauty of the flower as the blooms fade into the background.

What to do though, when the perfect colored paper is just too busy for your design – and you don’t want to cover the whole patterned paper with a card stock layer… grab your package of Vellum Card Stock and add a layer (or two) to soften the background.

Vellum is terrific for layering – but here are just a couple of tips to keep this handy paper from getting tricky.

  • Watch Your Adhesive: Be sure that adhesive on the back of vellum is hidden by a layering element (the orchids on this card) because adhesive will show through to the front of the vellum, and it doesn’t look pretty.
  • Add in Layers: One layer of vellum not enough to soften your background? No problem – just add two layers for increased opacity. It’s like turning up the slider on a Photoshop layer :)
  • Beware the Smudges: Dry time for stamped images will be longer on vellum than on regular card stock, so be sure to allow extra time for the ink to set.
