SIMPLE Fun Fold, Do’s + Don’ts Masking Tips for Stampin’ Up!® Butterfly Flight Hot Foil Dies

I’m back with another Butterfly Flight masking project – this time in Hydrangea Hue for beautiful blue butterflies accented with gold. These masked butterflies are a perfect match for the coordinating Bloom Boutique Specialty DSP, which includes its own gold foil elements. Add the Scalloped Blooms bundle (stamps and dies) for pretty shaped elements that accent the butterflies.

Some important do’s and don’ts for masking – I’ve included these in the video, so you can see what I mean. First, DO keep the corners of the masks (look for the notch) all at the upper left corner so that none are reversed. If they’re backwards, they won’t match the foiling or the die. Second, DON’T feel like you need to make every layer an even color with the Blending Brushes. Use an ombre effect to add texture and interest to your butterflies. Finally, DO add foil to your project as the very first step. It’s very hard (ie impossible) to go back and add the foil to a masked butterfly at the end. They’re designed to be foiled first, then masked.
