NEW Watercolor Pencils: Top Tips for Simple Watercolor

Have you seen this chicken?  Seriously – he’s got to be the cutest thing in the Sale-A-Bration catalog.  Or maybe that award goes to the Tasty Trucks set with the taco truck.  We should take a poll! Funny that they’re both perfect for Watercolor Pencils – trend alert!

I think my vote for cutest Sale-A-Bration set goes to this guy, since I haven’t played with my Tasty Trucks set.  That will have to wait til I get home from California!

In the meantime, check out the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on this card.  I used a 2″ piece of Gold Foil Sheet with the Triple Banner Punch to trim the tail, then put it through the folder.  The hexes are great!  The dimensions go both up and down (remember the Cable Knit Folder?) so there’s no flat back on paper with this embossing folder.

And there are so many uses for the folder – chicken wire, nuts & bolts designs for the Urban Underground Product Suite, and it’s a great ‘neutral’ design element for pretty much anything. Much more masculine than swirls or hearts, that’s for sure!

Best part of this card?  The NEW Watercolor Pencils from the Occasions Catalog!  They are YUMMY!  (But not edible.)  The color goes on smooth and is easily blendable.  My favorite paper for the Watercolor Pencils is Shimmery White, but Whisper White and Very Vanilla also work great, plus of course the Watercolor Paper.

I have a couple of tips for using these pencils.  While there are MANY styles of watercolor and just as many ways to use these, I like the simple 1-2-3 method.

How to Use Stampin’ Up!’s New Watercolor Pencils

  1. Stamp the image in Staz-On Ink
  2. Add color lines with the Watercolor Pencils
  3. Blend with a Blender Pen.

Then repeat as needed to add further color dimension (think “more color = more depth”).
