Inspired By Nature: a reinker technique

Another of my favorite stamp sets, one that I pull out whenever I need a special card – Inspired By Nature (see it online).  We’re going to be saying goodbye to this stamp set on May 31st (learn about the retiring stamp sets & how to get the new catalog for free)

Want to learn how to make this card?  Here’s the technique tutorial for the Felt Pad Technique on my blog.

And looking for more project ideas for Inspired By Nature?  Here are a few on my blog!

Top Note Tri-Fold Cards: A Video Tutorial

Okay, it’s been 2 weeks since I promised you a Video Tutorial on this project, so I think it’s about time.  Did you see the Top Note Tri-Fold Cards I’ve been posting? (see them here)  This is the one I shared yesterday.

Today I’m posting the Video Tutorial for making the Top Note Die shaped flap that is used here as the front panel.

The trick is to use your Big Shot Cutting Plates so that they only put pressure on a portion of your die.  You could really use this trick for any die…I’m thinking it would look really pretty with the Snowflake Die.  Hmm… I think I better get stamping!

What do you think?  Want to give it a try? Be sure to look at the samples I’ve posted using this technique (see them here).

Here Kitty Kitty: Colorblock Techniques

Have you browsed the new Summer Mini Catalog yet? (download it now or browse online)  At Stamp Club this week, several people commented on how much they love the new Touch of Kindness stamp set (see it online).  Not only does it have sweet images, it also has some terrific sentiments.

Here is another of my samples from playing with this stamp set:

The technique here is easy.  Color Blocking is a great way to repeat an image for a greater effect.  Just think of Andy Warhol.

Just pick 4 colors of ink (I chose mine from the Playdate Designer Series Papersee it online).  Stamp your image on 4 squares of card stock, then place on a mat.  Very simple!

Here are my other samples with the Touch of Kindness stamp set.

Happy Stamping!

Emboss Your Easter Eggs: A Good Egg Design

Time to get ready with your Easter card ideas!  If you’re home on Spring Break, whip out your stamps and enjoy some creating time. I’m sure there’s a joke about stamping with chicks here, but I can’t quite come up with it, so you’ll have to use your imagination. LOL

Here’s a card that we made at Stamp Club with Meg in March (see more Stamp Club with Meg ideas):

Here’s the technique, adapted from one shared in our Stampin’ Success demonstrator magazine.  Stampin’ Success is just one more perk of being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator (learn more on my website):

Begin with basic embossing supplies, a detailed line-art stamp, Glossy White card stock and an Aqua Painter.

  1. Heat emboss the image on Glossy White card stock with clear Emboss Powder.
  2. Create a palette of colors with drops of Classic Ink refills on scratch paper or a paper plate
  3. Spritz the embossed image with water
  4. Use an Aqua Painter to pick up color and touch it to part of the embossed image.  Color will spread through the compartment.  Allow card stock to dry.

Happy Stamping!

Funky Four Day 5: Heat & Stick Powder

So what is this?  A Funky Four Technique Tutorial, or a Funky Five? Well, there are more ways to use glitter than just 4, so I figured I’d add another card today.

Today’s card is a design from Kim Peck, and uses the Heat & Stick Powder (see it online) as the glue to hold the Supernova Fine Glitter on the card (see it online).

The chocolate glitter (there are 5 choices in the package) is a perfect match for the Chocolate Chip card stock here.

Want to know a secret? If you don’t know how to use your Heat N Stick Powder, you’re not alone! I get asked a lot of questions about stamping, but how to use Heat N Stick Powder is definitely in the top 5.

So never fear, I can help you figure this out.  You’ll be making your own glittery mushrooms in no time!

**How to Use Heat and Stick Powder:**

  1. Stamp your image in Versamark Ink
  2. Pour Heat N Stick Powder over your stamped image.
  3. GENTLY tap excess powder off the card stock.  Note: this powder is more granular than embossing powder.  If you tap too vigorously, too much will fall off your image and you’ll have spotty glitter in the end.
  4. Use the Heat Tool (see it online) to melt your powder.  Note: melting happens quickly! Don’t overheat your powder or it will lose stickiness.  Melt only until you see the powder go from white to clear.
  5. Pour glitter over the melted powder and tap excess glitter back into container.
  6. Use Heat Tool to briefly set the glitter.  This takes about the same amount of heat/time as when you melted the powder in the first place.  Brush away any stray glitter.

Be sure to check out my Funky Four Glitter Technique Series from Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4, too.

Happy Stamping!

Funky Four Day 4: Dazzling Diamond Dust

Grab your Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder (see it online) and your VersaMark Ink Pad (see it online) and you’re set for this next technique!

Okay, you might also want your Heat Tool (see it online), but you probably already figured that out. Get ready for Dazzling Diamond Dust.  This is a fabulous way to make some fun panels for your projects.

For Day 4 of the Funky Four Glitter Technique Series, the technique is one that can be applied to any card.  Here’s what you need to know…

Dazzling Diamond Dust Technique

  1. Stamp your images on a card stock panel
  2. Applying your pad directly to the card stock, cover your panel with Versamark Ink
  3. Pour Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder over the card stock and tap off excess
  4. Melt powder with Heat Tool and add panel to your project

Be sure to check out Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 of the Funky Four Glitter Technique Series!

Glitter Strip: Day 3 of the Funky Four Technique Series

Ready for Day 3 of the Funky Four Glitter Series?  (Yes, I have 4 cards for the ‘funky four’…so one more for tomorrow!) You can still check out Day 1 and Day 2 if you missed them!

Quick notes: The mushrooms are colored here with Stampin’ Write Markers, and the colors come directly from the Play Date Designer Series Paper: Real Red, Old Olive, So Saffron and Tempting Turquoise.  The DSPs in the Stampin’ Up! catalog are a GREAT source of color inspiration, whether you are using that particular paper on your project or not. (see the papers online)

Today’s Glitter Technique is an easy one, too.  Glittered Sticky Strip!

  1. Place a piece of Sticky Strip Adhesive on your project.
  2. Remove the red backing paper and pour the glitter over the top.
  3. Press glitter into the Sticky Strip to get the best coverage, then tap off excess glitter.

This is a great technique for a spot where you don’t want to tie a ribbon, but need that extra ‘something’.

Happy Stamping!

Video Tutorial: Watercolor Wonder Crayons

Recently I shared a project that I’ve been demonstrating at Home Parties, using the Watercolor Wonder Crayons.  I was surprised that more stampers hadn’t seen this watercoloring tool already!  The WWC are definitely a favorite of mine.

To spread my love around, I thought a Video Tutorial might be in order.

So here it is, my Stamping 101 Watercolor Wonder Crayons with Aqua Painters!  You can find step-by-step written instructions here on my blog.

Here is the Supply List for this project. All supplies are available for order online through your Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator — I’m happy to help you with an order if you don’t have a demonstrator! (click below to view online):

Sew Sweet Stitches: Little Girl’s Apron

Last week my daughter and I were invited to a party where the girls were supposed to wear an apron and help serve snacks to the moms.  Lots of fun, but we didn’t have a little apron on hand.  What’s a stamping Mom to do?

Make an apron, of course!

I googled ‘little girl apron pattern’ and came up with a fabulous tutorial by Cindy and I based my apron on her pattern.

The apron uses the Sweet Stitches Designer Series Fabric (see it online).  The pieces for the pocket were cut with my Big Shot Die Cut Machine (see it online), using the Scallop Square Die (see it online) for the pocket.

The letter ‘A’ for Abby is from the Serif Alphabet Die set (see it online).  And of course the matching Daffodil Delight button is from the Sweet Stitches Designer Big Buttons (see it online).

I started by cutting strips (4″ wide) for my ruffle and waistband.  The ruffle pieces are 4 x 28″ and I cut two and seamed them in the middle.  The strips for the waist ties were 4 x 18″ and I cut two and seamed those in the middle, too.  You may need to cut your strips to 4 x 28″ for longer ties–these fit my daughter, but her waist is fairly small.

Have fun with this project!  The steps are below in picture form.

Happy Stamping!

Sponging For Dimension

Last week I shared a Video Tutorial for a Petal Cone project using the new Big Shot Die from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  There was a gorgeous flower included on my tutorial, similar to the ones Stampin’ Up! made for us as Leadership gifts–for demonstrators who earned the Incentive Trip last year.

The trick to getting a really nice looking flower is simple: Sponging.

The more dimension added to a project, the more visually interesting it will be.  Sponging is a great trick to add extra dimension & life to an otherwise flat layer of card stock.

On the flower in my Album Project from last week, sponging also added extra visual impact to dry embossed areas of the flowers.

**Sponging TIPS**

  • Ink a Stampin’ Sponge piece (see it online) on an ink pad by pressing and twisting into the ink
  • Begin on scratch paper to the side of your project and wipe the sponge from the scratch paper, across the edge of the card stock and on the card stock.
  • This ensures that the ink will be darkest at the edge and prevents unexpected dark spots.
  • Cut your Stamping Sponges into 8-10 wedges, rather than using the full circle sponge for a single color

Be sure to check out the full project if you didn’t see it last week!

Happy Stamping!
