A Purple Christmas Card? Sure… it’s a Contempo Christmas

I know, purple doesn’t usually jump out as a Christmas Card, but this was one of the FAVS of all 4 cards from my first Christmas Card Stamp A Stack session in October. Did you miss it? Good news– you can still come to the November session! (details and sign ups online — class meets here in Mahomet, Illinois)  Sorry I don’t have a ‘to go’ section of this class…but if you do want a Holiday Class ‘to go’, be sure to check my gift class post from yesterday!

Here’s a card that features the Contempo Christmas stamp set (see it online) and Wisteria Wonder and Concord Crush as Christmas colors.

Punch?  It’s the Ornament Punch (see it online) that matches the Contempo Christmas set (and many others!). I actually use this punch ALL the time at Christmas.  Be sure to check out some of my past blog samples with the punch.

The giant snowflake is from the Snowflakes Die for the Big Shot (yup, you can get one for free… but only until November 11th–check it out!). And of course the new Snow Burst Impressions Folder (see it online) is also available as part of the “I Want It All Kit”(aka the Demonstrator Starter Kit) with the free Big Shot :)

On the inside, I added a tree from Contempo Christmas (see some other blog posts with this set!) and a greeting from the same set, punched with the Modern Label Punch.

***TIP*** When you’re stamping inside a card, it’s AWFUL to have the full card finished and then ‘mess it up’ by stamping a crooked greeting on the inside.  Solution?  No problem!  Just stamp your greeting on a piece of card stock and punch it out, THEN add it to your card.  Voila!  Perfect greeting, every time.

Happy Stamping!

Stamping with Chocolate: Candy Ornaments

Because stamping is fun, but stamping with chocolate is better…

This quick holiday treat takes very little material and very little time to create because the Stampin’ Up! punches are the perfect complement to the images in the Tags Til Christmas stamp set.  Plus the Tags Til Christmas bundle is part of the ABCs of Handmade Holidays special going on right now!

These little ornaments are simple:

  1. Stamp the ornament image from Tags Til Christmas in Cherry Cobbler ink and punch using the Ornament Punch.
  2. Punch a set of matching ornaments from the Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper (part of the Contempo Christmas ABC Bundle!)
  3. Attach one stamped ornament and one Designer Paper ornament to the front and back of each wrapped peppermint patty
  4. Slide all 3 ornaments into a Medium Cello Bag and tie with a length of Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Tape
  5. Ink the pine bough image from the Tags Til Christmas stamp set with Always Artichoke and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Markers, then punch with the matching Decorative Label Punch
  6. Layer with a Designer Series Paper punched decorative label piece and attach to cello bag with a Stampin’ Dimensional

Voila! Here come the holidays!

Christmas Card Twist: Photo in a Tin

This idea for the Contempo Christmas stamp set (have you seen the sale bundles yet?) uses a tin that once held Christmas chocolates.  Now it holds another sweet Christmas greeting!

When you untie the bow and open the tin, the card folds out in a zig-zag.  The punched ornament from the Contempo Christmas stamp set serves as a pull tab.

There are a couple things about this particular tin that make it easy to decorate.

Here are my **Tips for Selecting ‘Stamp-able’ Containers:**

  • No Embossing: it’s tricky to cover a tin that has a 1/4″ embossed Snoopy on the front
  • Solid Edge Colors: unless you like fussy cutting, picking tins with good edge colors means you can leave them uncovered
  • Decoration Limited: when the printed design on the tin front doesn’t go to the very edge, your decoration size can be a little more flexible

You could make this project into a mini scrapbook, too.  Just add more pages and more photos.  If you choose a larger tin, the ‘pages’ can be larger and you won’t have to crease your photo to fit inside.  Here’s an example using a little suitcase tin.

Actually, the Small Tin (124239) on the Stampin’ Up! Clearance Rack right now is just about perfect.  You can order these online through my store.

Reminder: Clearance Rack items are available only through ordering online and not at workshops or other events.

I’m Dreaming of a Purple Christmas

Hopefully the snow won’t come down purple, but I got some purple inspiration recently, and I’m LOVING these colors for holiday cards! They’re not traditional, but who says Christmas cards need to be red and green?

Here are the colors I’m using:

  • Lovely Lilac (cardstock layer and largest snowflake)
  • Lavender Lace (ornament and medium snowflakes)
  • Bashful Blue (main card, Striped Grosgrain Ribbon and smallest snowflakes)

Of course every Christmas card DOES need a little “bling”, even if it’s not a red/green card. The Top Note diecut shape is a perfect layer for the card and the Clear Rhinestone Brad sets off the ornament nicely.

Both the Serene Snowflakes stamp set and the Delightful Decorations stamp set (with its coordinating Ornament Punch) are in the Holiday Mini Catalog. Don’t forget to order these items before the Holiday Mini Catalog period ends on January 4th!

Biggest tip for this card? Use lots of Stampin’ Dimensionals. (They never last long on the supply shelf in my stamp room ;-)

Simple and Sassy Christmas Candy

Do you need a quick idea for something to give out as a holiday gift? Maybe a quick candy packet for the mailman, UPS driver, Sunday School teacher…etc.?

I created this project for a Stampin’ Up! workshop I did last month, and I wanted to share it with you here.

The supplies are simple:
one ink color, one stamp pad and one punch. Plus everyone likes Hershey’s kisses, right? Although I suppose you could substitute the candy for something else. Maybe some homemade fudge or cookies? (feel free to send me a sample if you do the fudge option ;-)

I do like the silver and red together, so I used the Real Red Classic Pad, the matching Real Red 5/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon, and the silver candy coordinates with the touch of silver in the Silver Elastic Cord.

Combining two different ribbon types in a project is super-trendy, and adds a nice extra touch to this project. And of course you can’t go wrong with the Ornament Punch to match the Delightful Decorations stamp set! (it’s easily my favorite in the Holiday Mini Catalog)

Don’t forget that the Delightful Decorations stamp set & Ornament Punch can only be ordered until the end of December 2009, and then they are gone when the Holiday Mini Catalog is over! Check out some other Holiday Mini Catalog ideas

Tapestry Snowflakes in Blue and Brown

Looking for a fun technique? This one has been around for awhile, but sometimes oldies are goodies :-) Besides, anything in blues and browns is gorgeous right now–oldie or not!

I created this card for my November Stamp Club, using the Tapestry Technique (see below for directions). The colors are Chocolate Chip for the background cardstock, Brocade Blue and Close to Cocoa for the technique layer, and the snowflakes are all stamped in Whisper White Craft Ink.

The Serene Snowflakes stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog was perfect for the ‘mood’ of this card, and it stamped beautifully in Whisper White ink.

The greeting is from the fabulous Level 1 Hostess Stamp Set, Holiday Best (choose it for free when you have a party, book party or personal order of at least $150!). The Christmas greeting perfectly matches the Ornament Punch from the Holiday Mini Catalog.

Directions:

  1. Using Craft Ink, sponge with 2-3 colors over a piece of neutral cardstock.
  2. Stamp over the top in Whisper White Craft Ink.
  3. Pour Clear Embossing Powder over the whole cardstock; heat emboss.

  4. If needed, add Versamark ink to the cardstock and layer more embossing powder.

Classic Pad version:

Sponge in Classic Ink, stamp with White Craft Ink, Heat Emboss, then add Versamark Ink to the card front and heat emboss with more Clear powder.

Christmas Goes 3-D

A few years ago these cards were popular, but it took a recent article in our monthly Demonstrator magazine (yup, another perk of joining the Stampin’ Up! family ;-) for me to get excited about making Shadowbox Cards again.

Here’s a Shadowbox Card using the Delightful Decorations stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog and coordinating Ornament Punch.

The holes in the front of the card and on the inside panel are both punched with the 1-3/4″ Circle Punch. The strip of metallic paper across the front of the card is from the Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper pack.

Here’s a look at the “guts” of this card, in case you’ve never made one before. There are 3 main pieces of cardstock — the front and the back, which are the same length and scored at the same width, and the inner cardstock, which is a little shorter so that it attaches between the layers.

Want to see a Video Tutorial on how to make these Pop-Up Shadowbox cards? I can help you! Here’s the video on my blog…

How Delightful: Decorations!

Out of the whole Mini Catalog, I think this Delightful Decorations stamp set and the matching Ornament punch are the “must have” stamps and accessory of the season. Of course there are other cool new products, and I think I *need* them all, but I just can’t see myself continuing to breathe without access to this little duo ;-)

Okay, perhaps I exaggerate, but not by much. ;-)

If you haven’t tried them out yet, you can do so tonight with a free Make N Take project!

And if you don’t live anywhere near central Illinois, never fear–here’s how the card was made:

  • Use the Petals-A-Plenty Impressions folder with your Big Shot to dry emboss the Garden Green cardstock background
  • Use the Crimper to add ripples to the Whisper White cardstock strip
  • Stamp and punch with the Delightful Decorations stamp set and Ornament Punch in Real Red and Garden Green
  • Tie a small knot in the White Organza Ribbon
  • Assemble as shown

If you’re really excited about the Petals-A-Plenty Impressions Folder, you might check out my Big Shot Die of the Month Club from September, where I featured this Folder. The kits are gone from that month, but you can still purchase the instruction and idea handout from that Club. And you can still sign up for the October Club!

Can’t Get Enough Reverse Texturz Ideas?

I’ll have to admit, I can’t get enough of playing with this Reverse Texturz technique! If you missed the technique, be sure to go back and view my Video Tutorial.

Here’s another idea for you. This is one done in Real Red with the NEW Petals A Plenty Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The new Delightful Decorations stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog is also going to be a favorite of mine–it hasn’t left my stamping table since it came out of that big brown Stampin’ Up! shipping box!

Don’t forget that you can still sign up for my September Big Shot Die of the Month Club until September 10th. You’ll get supplies & directions for 4 different card ideas, and this month’s Club includes the Petals A Plenty folder, so you could make this card on your own!
