Monochromatic Cards: Fresh Vintage in Black & White

When was the last time you did a card without color?  Sometimes a monochromatic card (“one color”) or a black & white card is a refreshing change of pace.  Here’s a card featuring the Fresh Vintage stamp set (available as a Sale-A-Bration reward with a $50 order right now).

The card was started on a Note Card & Envelope base (see them online) (yes, I’m addicted to them — here are a whole bunch of ideas on my blog).  I cut 1″ off the front of the notecard, then used the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online) at the edge of a piece of Basic Black card stock and stamped the Fresh Vintage flourish on the inside of the note card.

Perfect embellishments for this card — Jewels Pearls in three sizes, and the Scallop Polka Dot Ribbon in Basic Black.  Yup, it comes in other colors too, but this was perfect for the B&W look.  If you’re trying to match the Scallop Circle size, it’s the 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch.   Just add with Dimensionals, and you’re set!

Be sure to check out my other Sale-A-Bration set ideas, or some of my other monochromatic card ideas.

Happy Stamping!

SAB: Sweet & Simple Sprinkled Expressions

It’s Sale-A-Bration!  You might have heard me mention that already, since it’s my fav part of the stamping year.  Here’s a card that I created back in December for my LovenStampfuls Demo Group Holiday Party (check out the party).  Yup, we were playing with Sale-A-Bration free stamp sets back before Christmas.  Feels like that was at least 4 months ago, right? Time flies!  And actually, if you’d like to learn more about joining my Demonstrator family, now is a great time with the special! (learn more)

Here’s a ‘sweet and simple’ card using the pre-cut/pre-scored Note cards & Envelopes (see them online).  I used the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online) at the bottom edge, then put a layer of Sweet Shop Designer Specialty Paper (see it online) underneath to peek out the bottom.

Stamp set?  It’s the Sale-A-Bration exclusive set, Sprinkled Expressions (available for free when you order $50 any time between now and March 31st).  If you’ve never experienced the joy of Sale-A-Bration, be sure to check out the details here!

The heart is stamped on the front on the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch layer and the greeting is inside: “LOVE you just the way you are”.  The coordinating Calypso Coral Ruffled Ribbon is a perfect match!

I’m completely in LOVE with the Note Cards & Envelopes — here are a whole bunch of ideas on my blog for using them.  They’re ready to go whenever I need them–pre-scored with envelopes included.  And the smaller card size makes the ‘sweet & simple’ style easy to execute.

Happy Stamping!

Apothecary Art: Easy Elegant Greetings

My new favorite stamp set?  Hands down, it’s Apothecary Art (see it online) from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  I can’t seem to put it down!  Funny, especially because I didn’t even pre-order it on my first demonstrator pre-order… I reluctantly added it later.  Just goes to show, sometimes it’s the play-time that makes a set our favorite!

Let’s see… favorite highlights of this card?

  1. It’s simple!  The base of the card is one of the Note Card & Envelopes that come as a package (note cards & envelopes together – see them online). I use these all the time now!  They’re quick to grab for a card idea I want to get down fast, and the envelope is already included.  Check out some other samples from my blog.
  2. Pleated Satin Ribbon — could it be any more gorgeous?  (see it online)
  3. Twitterpated Designer Series Paper — my current fav of all the Occasions Mini catalog papers (see it online)
  4. For something a little different, try using the Eyelet Border Punch (see it online) along the side of the card, and layer with a short strip of contrasting paper.

Happy Stamping!

Christmas Card: JOY in the Snow

Okay, maybe you don’t take joy in seeing the snow fly, but you might like this quick Christmas card anyway!  Using the Serif Essentials Alphabet Die set for the Big Shot, the letters J and Y are a perfect fit for a snowy “JOY”.

The background?  It’s the Northern Flurries Embossing Folder.  And again, my fav holiday card colors for this year — Pool Party and Island Indigo!  (did you see my gift idea from earlier this week with the same colors?)

This is a quick card because the card itself is one of the Note Cards & Envelopes from the set in the catalog (see them online).  They come pre-scored and ready to decorate!  (check out some of my other Note Card ideas)

We’ll be making this card this evening at my Custom Christmas Card Class.  Want to get together with your friends and make 16 cards to take home?  Be sure to drop me an email and we can fit you in before the holidays — or after the holidays for an All-Occasions Card Class!

Happy Stamping!

Lean On Me: Sweet & Simple Note Cards

This past weekend, in between enjoying walks in the woods, I stamped a variety of projects from VERY simple to VERY busy with lots of layers, embellishments and ruffles. This card using the Lean On Me stamp set is definitely one of the cards from the simple end of the spectrum.

Supplies:

Meg’s Challenge — try a SIMPLE card next time you sit down to craft!  The pre-scored Note Cards & Envelopes are a great size for doing sweet and simple “Express Stamping” cards.  They come 20 to a package, and they’re so easy to pull out of the package, stamp, and be done.  Check out some of my other cards using the Note Cards

Dress It Up: Step 2 for a sweet & simple notecard

Remember my Express Stamping “just get started” card from Friday? Well this Engraved Greetings card uses the same idea, plus a little extra “one more thing.”

The only addition to this sweet note card is a small scrap of the Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper (only in the Occasions Mini Catalog until April 30th!).

These note cards would make a quick gift set for a friend — or even a Mom!  Mother’s Day is coming up quickly!

Watch tomorrow for the ‘one more step’ third installment of this simple note card.

Happy Stamping!

Fun Friday: Just Get Stamping 101

How many times a week do you think, “wish I had time to get my stamps out”?  Here’s a project that’s quick and elegant, and makes it easy to grab some card stock, a stamp and some ink and GET STARTED!

While stamping can be a fabulous Artisan Production (like my Retro Color Block card from this week), simple projects, or “Express Stamping“, are a great way to begin, whether you’re an expert stamper or just beginning. (see one of my favorite Express Stamping projects)

Try taking a terrific focal point stamp, like this Engraved Greetings thank you.  Just stamp once in the middle of your note card, add a ribbon and a small embellishment and you’re set!

The size for this note card is a little smaller than the normal 1/2 sheet cards.  These are 5 x 3-1/2″ and actually come pre-scored with envelopes from Stampin’ Up! (see them online).  These smaller cards are perfect for simple elegant cards like this one.

I like to teach that there are Three Steps to Stamping:

  1. Stamp
  2. Layer
  3. Embellish

Whether a card is ‘express’ or ‘artisan’ you’ll nearly always see those 3 steps.  Scroll down through some of the recent posts on my blog, and you’ll see these steps in action.

Next time you look at a card and think, “hmm… something is missing,” be sure to think about these steps to be sure you’ve included all three.

Stamps, Ink & Paper: Cute & Quick

Okay, I’m almost done with these simple projects (see the last few days), and then we’ll be back to the ‘normal’ creations.  But until then, I challenge you to get out a Note Card & Envelope and try making a Simple & Sweet Card yourself.  (did you know you can buy sets of Note Cards & Envelopes, 20 for $5.95 in the Stampin’ Up! catalog?)

Really, isn’t this a cute way to send a quick note to a friend to let her know you’re thinking of her?  A nice change from a txt or a fb dm, don’t you think? (translation: text message or a facebook direct message ;-) )

This one is a speedy baby note–too cute!

And finally, a Christmas card that won’t take 10 years to create.  **TIP** for this one, stamp first, then punch out the ornaments for best placement.

All you need for these cards is the Every Little Bit stamp set, the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, a pack of notecards & envelopes and the Getting Started Stampin Ink Spots! (check out the shopping list here)

And tomorrow, back to our regularly scheduled slightly more elaborate stamping projects!

So You Want to Learn to Stamp? Here’s How to Get Started!

Yesterday morning a friend of mine got a few of her friends together for a “Coffee & A Card” party.  What a fun morning!  She invited her friends who work part time or have flexible schedules to drop their kids off at school, then head over to her house for a short coffee hour and a chance to make a stamped card.

Here is one of the cards we stamped in that short time–it was a HUGE hit!  I know it’s beyond simple, but sometimes simple is perfect.  The Every Little Bit stamp set is my new FAVORITE!  28 images for EVERY occasion — perfect.  Pair it with the Teeny Tiny Wishes greetings stamp set, and you have everything you need.

I heard several ladies mention that they really enjoyed the flexibility and open canvas of stamping a sweet card like this.  Think “stamping with no stress, no pressure.”  Ah, doesn’t that sound nice?

Don’t get me wrong–I LOVE “Artisan Stamping” too (term coined by my friend Lynsay Mahon), but the Every Little Bit Kit is perfect for a quick or relaxing card session — Lynsay calls it “Express Stamping.”

If you wanted (or you couldn’t help yourself) you could dress up your card with a Scallop Square punched piece and a layer of Getting Started colored card stock to match the ink spots.

Ready to get started?  Here are the supplies you need in a basic kit:
Supplies:
Papers: p171 Note Cards & Envelopes (set of 20 — 107311) $5.95 x 2 for 40 cards
