I’m Twitterpated over Fabric Fun Flowers
At Stampin’ Up! events, I often like to take a little gift to share with my LovenStampfuls Demonstrator group, and I wanted to share the brooch pins that I brought for Leadership in San Antonio last month. There were 10 of us attending (yay for a fun group!) and we had a great time.
The Twitterpated Designer Series Fabric (see it online) was cut with the Fun Flowers Die (see it online) for the Big Shot (see it online).
I added layers of old denim between the Twitterpated flowers, and the whole pin is held together by an Antique Brad (see them online). The little Jewelry Tag Punch piece (see it online) adds an extra touch with the “friends” sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set (see it online).

Bright Thanks: A Scallop Square Note Card Trick
Looking for a fun new shape for your cards? Time to pull out your Big Shot Machine (see it online) and your Scallop Square Die (see it online)! Paired with the Outlined Occasions stamp set (free with a $50 order during Sale-A-Bration) this is a quick & easy note card.
**BIG SHOT TECHNIQUE TIP** The note card is easy. Just fold your card stock in half to make the card. Place the folded card stock on your die so that the fold is INSIDE the cutting edge. The fold won’t be cut off when you put the die through the Big Shot, and you’re left with a fun scalloped note card shape!
Like the colors? They’re all from the 2011-2013 In Colors, which you can get in a set of markers, card stock, printed brads and more (check them out). Even cooler? You could get started on your color collection with my February Stamps in the Mail Club Kit (learn more about stamping by mail).
If you’re in love with the simple circle punch flower on this card, say a ‘thank you’ to Stampin’ Up! for giving me the inspiration. This flower is copied from the hand-made chocolates that were on our Make N Take tables at Leadership last month. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 5 Petal Flower Punch (use one ‘petal’ for the leaf) – (see it online)
- 1″ Circle Punch (see it online)
- 1/2″ Circle Punch (see it online)
- Clear Rhinestone Brads (see it online)

Tea Shoppe & The Paper Doily Sizzlit
Do you like tea? I have to admit that I wasn’t a fan until a friend shared some Cardamom Cinnamon tea from The Republic of Tea with me…yum! I’m a certified tea lover now, so the Tea Shoppe stamp set was a ‘love at first sight’ set, especially since Stampin’ Up! gave it to us for free at the 2011 Founder’s Circle Retreat!
I’ve had this project ready to share for months, and finally get to pull it out to show! I’m a big fan of looseleaf tea, and these cool “make your own teabag” tea filters by T-Sac. So here’s a little gift to share with a friend — a 1×8″ Cello Bag filled with loose tea, and a 1×8″ Cello Bag with several tea filters, tied off with a sweet sentiment by Louisa May Alcott from the Tea Shoppe stamp set.
The two pieces are wrapped with a doily cut using the Paper Doily Sizzlit for the Big Shot. Gotta love these fun new toys from the Occasions Mini Catalog!
A couple of tips on the Paper Doily:
Use a card stock shim (or two) between the bottom of the Sizzlit and the bottom cutting plate. These can help the die cut more cleanly — it varies from Big Shot to Big Shot (we’re talking a hair thickness here) so it may take a little trial and error to find what works best with your machine.- To get most of the paper pieces out (they stick in the doily a bit after you cut it), roll the cut doily around a Stampin’ Around Marker or other small cylinder. After rolling it a few times, most of the doily pieces will pop out on their own.
- If you don’t like poking the center pieces out, skip it
Use the doily as a bottom layer on your projects, since the outside pieces will pop out using the rolling technique, and you can add a Scallop Circle punched piece in the middle to cover the ones that might take a little more poking. - Finally, just take your time and use a Pokey Tool (aka Paper Piercing Tool) to get them all out. This is a gorgeous piece of die cut card stock — it’s worth the extra effort!

Rosette Relief = Designer Rosette Die
Okay, I love my Simply Scoring Tool for all kind of projects, but when it comes to making Rosettes, I am completely in LOVE with the new Designer Rosette Die for the Big Shot!
Here’s a project I created for my current Stamps in the Mail Club Round, using the Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper and the Forever Young stamp set, plus the sweet single stamp, Elegant Thank You. The background shape is cut with the new Framelits Labels Collection.
The first time I put Designer Series Paper in this die, then folded the scores and ended up with a rosette in about 1.5 minutes… oh, I was in HEAVEN! Really, I think I did a little dance in front of my Big Shot to express my happiness.
Here are my tips for the Designer Rosette Die (see it online):
- For DSP, using the Extended Premium Crease Pad (see it online) on top instead of the top Cutting Plate was perfect. My crease lines were crisp enough to fold easily, and no white paper core showed through when I folded them.
- I did this small medallion with a 1.75 x 12″ strip of DSP — only one strip was needed. The score lines are a little further than 1/4″ apart, so it has a slightly different look than the 1/4″ Simply Scored rosettes.
- To attach the ends of the paper strip, I used Green-Lid Glue (aka Multipurpose Liquid Glue — see it online).
- To flatten the medallion and hold it in place, I used the Green-Lid Glue again. The trick is that the medallion isn’t quite flat on top, so I held the medallion down to make the back flat on my project (or on a punched backing circle) for a minute or two until the glue set. Since the medallion isn’t quite flat on top, it doesn’t work to set a book on top to hold it down til the glue sets. Make sense?
I love that the die has a zig-zag on one edge, and a scallop on the other. That way you can cut a strip with either decoration, or just put your strip across the middle to make the ends plain. Just be sure to make the strip exactly straight across, or the folds won’t cooperate when you try to assemble the rosette. In fact, it’s probably more reliable to cut a full 5″ strip and then trim it into 3 pieces. But still — love the edge choices!
Eek! Okay, just writing about this, I’m getting excited about making more rosettes
You might want to know about sizes for the finished Rosettes, too. Here’s the range that I found:
- Use 3 full strips of DSP (5 x 12″ each) — finished rosette is 11-3/4″ wide. Perfect for home decor or a really big scrapbook page background.
- Use a single strip of DSP (1-3/4 x 12″) — finished rosette is nearly 4″ wide.
- Use a single strip of DSP (1-1/2 x 12″) — finished rosette is about 3″ wide.
Have fun with these, and watch for my upcoming Video Tutorial! And be sure to check out more of my Occasions Mini Catalog project ideas.
Happy Stamping!

Eek! Loving this new Big Shot Die, which makes rosettes a breeze. I was literally doing a little dance in my stamp room the first time I created a rosette with it. Merry & Type: A Cocoa Slider Packet
I’ve been a demonstrator for nearly 10 years. Boy, the time sure flies when you’re having fun! I pulled this Cocoa Slider Packet design from the recesses of my stamping brain…I remember demonstrating this project when I first started! Here’s an updated version though: with the Merry & Type stamp set (see it online) and the Peekaboo Frames Die for the Big Shot (see it online).
Know what’s cool about this little holiday treat? It moves! When you pull the ribbon end, an inner panel with the treat (cocoa) slides out to the side. And the Peekaboo frame opens, too, revealing a message from the Merry & Type stamp set inside.
I know! Isn’t it fun? Sometimes I can’t believe that I haven’t made one of these for 7-8 years. Definitely an ‘oldie but goodie’ kind of project. Want to learn how to make these? Here are the directions:
Start with a ½ sheet of Very Vanilla card stock and a ‘slider’ piece cut to fit your cocoa packet—about 3 ¾ x 5 ½”.- Place the slider and cocoa in the packet and use Sticky Strip to make a flat tube.
- Remove the cocoa. With the slider still inside, punch through all layers at one end, about ½” from the edge. Pull the slider out and flip it left/right and insert back into the packet so the holes line up.
- String a ribbon through all the holes at once, then add cocoa packet back and push slider & cocoa into packet. Tie at end to hold cocoa in place.
Add a cocoa packet, a tea bag or a hot apple cider and you have a perfect holiday neighbor gift! Or keep the packet flat by using it to hold a Gift Card for birthdays!
Happy Stamping!

Candy Wrapper Die: Sweet & Simple Neighbor Gifts
Have you played with the Candy Wrapper Die for the Big Shot? Last year I made some quick and cute holiday gifts with this die (check them out) and they were a big hit. (see the die online).
Even more fun? The Many Merry Messages stamp set is a great fit for this project. (see it online) The Snowflake Punch provides a seasonal accent, but you could change it up for any occasion with the Gift Givers stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog (see it online).
The Glimmer Paper comes in handy for all kinds of projects, and hands this little treat the “bling” factor (see it online). Colors here? They’re from the 2011-2013 In Colors: Pool Party and Island Indigo.
Finally, if you’re looking for help with assembling your Candy Wrapper die cuts, be sure to check out my Video Tutorial for putting these together.
Here are a couple of quick “How To” tips for the Candy Wrapper Die:
- Use the Premium Crease Pad (see it online) to be sure to get strong creases, especially when using Designer Series Paper
- Fold along the horizontal and vertical lines first, then fold all the “x” creases at the ends
- Use Sticky Strip to hold the box together. Be sure to assemble the box ‘flat’ (check the Video Tutorial)
- To fold the ends, fold them back and forth as if they’re milk cartons (again, check the Video). Then separate the end and “twist & open”
Have fun with these quick little treats!!

Top Note Tri-Fold Cards: A Video Tutorial
Okay, it’s been 2 weeks since I promised you a Video Tutorial on this project, so I think it’s about time. Did you see the Top Note Tri-Fold Cards I’ve been posting? (see them here) This is the one I shared yesterday.
Today I’m posting the Video Tutorial for making the Top Note Die shaped flap that is used here as the front panel.
The trick is to use your Big Shot Cutting Plates so that they only put pressure on a portion of your die. You could really use this trick for any die…I’m thinking it would look really pretty with the Snowflake Die. Hmm… I think I better get stamping!
What do you think? Want to give it a try? Be sure to look at the samples I’ve posted using this technique (see them here).
