Mask Technique for Punches

Ever try to punch in a specific part of a card, only to find that the punch has moved or you didn’t center the punch as you expected?  Here is a GREAT punching trick that will help you line up your punches every time.  It’s a great technique for projects like this, where you need your Blossom Punch shape right in the center of each note card layer.

This little note card set and matching Fancy Favor Die gift box are one of the 4 projects from my current Stamps in the Mail Club round! (learn more)

I am in love with these colors!  They remind me of rainbow sherbet, which is my absolute favorite Baskin Robbins flavor…oh, and Daiquiri Ice, YUM.  Until it’s available this summer, I’ll content myself with stamping in Pool Party, Calypso Coral and Peach Parfait.

Mask Technique for Punches:

  1. Punch a piece of sticky note so the punched shape includes a sticky edge
  2. Place this mask over the paper, positioning where you’d like the final hole
  3. Punch directly over the mask, lining punch with shape.  VOILA!

Stamps: You’re My Type, Mixed Bunch;
Ink: Pool Party, Calypso Coral, Peach Parfait;
Paper: Naturals Ivory, Pool Party, Calypso Coral, Peach Parfait, Chocolate Chip, Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper (Sale-A-Bration!);
Accessories: Blossom Punch, 3/4″ Circle Punch, 1/2″ Circle Punch, Modern Label Punch, Chocolate Chip Scalloped Polka Dot Ribbon, Fancy Favor Die, Big Shot

Happy Stamping!

You’re My Type: cakes, pies, chocolate-covered strawberries…

What’s not to love about the Sweet Shop product suite in the Occasions Mini Catalog?  (see it online)  Here I’ve used the Sweet Shop Designer Series Paper (see it online) along with the Mixed Bunch stamp set (part of my Stamps in the Mail Club for February). This is actually one of the projects my Stamps in the Mail Clubbers will be making in March!  Did you know that LovenStampfuls demonstrators can participate in my Stamps in the Mail Club at a discounted rate?

The colors in the Sweet Shop paper are some of my favorites for this time of year — pretty much direct from the 2011-2013 In Colors (see them online).  Something about bright happy colors sure helps when the winter grays outside start to take over!

I’m Twitterpated over Fabric Fun Flowers

At Stampin’ Up! events, I often like to take a little gift to share with my LovenStampfuls Demonstrator group, and I wanted to share the brooch pins that I brought for Leadership in San Antonio last month.  There were 10 of us attending (yay for a fun group!) and we had a great time.

The Twitterpated Designer Series Fabric (see it online) was cut with the Fun Flowers Die (see it online) for the Big Shot (see it online).

I added layers of old denim between the Twitterpated flowers, and the whole pin is held together by an Antique Brad (see them online).  The little Jewelry Tag Punch piece (see it online) adds an extra touch with the “friends” sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set (see it online).

Rosette Relief = Designer Rosette Die

Okay, I love my Simply Scoring Tool for all kind of projects, but when it comes to making Rosettes, I am completely in LOVE with the new Designer Rosette Die for the Big Shot!

Here’s a project I created for my current Stamps in the Mail Club Round, using the Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper and the Forever Young stamp set, plus the sweet single stamp, Elegant Thank You.  The background shape is cut with the new Framelits Labels Collection.

The first time I put Designer Series Paper in this die, then folded the scores and ended up with a rosette in about 1.5 minutes… oh, I was in HEAVEN!  Really, I think I did a little dance in front of my Big Shot to express my happiness.

Here are my tips for the Designer Rosette Die (see it online):

  1. For DSP, using the Extended Premium Crease Pad (see it online) on top instead of the top Cutting Plate was perfect.  My crease lines were crisp enough to fold easily, and no white paper core showed through when I folded them.
  2. I did this small medallion with a 1.75 x 12″ strip of DSP — only one strip was needed.  The score lines are a little further than 1/4″ apart, so it has a slightly different look than the 1/4″ Simply Scored rosettes.
  3. To attach the ends of the paper strip, I used Green-Lid Glue (aka Multipurpose Liquid Gluesee it online).
  4. To flatten the medallion and hold it in place, I used the Green-Lid Glue again.  The trick is that the medallion isn’t quite flat on top, so I held the medallion down to make the back flat on my project (or on a punched backing circle) for a minute or two until the glue set.  Since the medallion isn’t quite flat on top, it doesn’t work to set a book on top to hold it down til the glue sets.  Make sense?
  5. I love that the die has a zig-zag on one edge, and a scallop on the other.  That way you can cut a strip with either decoration, or just put your strip across the middle to make the ends plain.  Just be sure to make the strip exactly straight across, or the folds won’t cooperate when you try to assemble the rosette.  In fact, it’s probably more reliable to cut a full 5″ strip and then trim it into 3 pieces.  But still — love the edge choices!

Eek!  Okay, just writing about this, I’m getting excited about making more rosettes :)

You might want to know about sizes for the finished Rosettes, too.  Here’s the range that I found:

  • Use 3 full strips of DSP (5 x 12″ each) — finished rosette is 11-3/4″ wide.  Perfect for home decor or a really big scrapbook page background.
  • Use a single strip of DSP (1-3/4 x 12″) — finished rosette is nearly 4″ wide.
  • Use a single strip of DSP (1-1/2 x 12″) — finished rosette is about 3″ wide.

Have fun with these, and watch for my upcoming Video Tutorial!  And be sure to check out more of my Occasions Mini Catalog project ideas.

Happy Stamping!

Holiday Stockings: Goody Goody Gift Bags

Need another gift packaging idea?  Check out the ones I’ve posted recently (click here) or here’s another fun idea.  Start with a white lunch sack, add a half sheet of card stock to the front and the back, embellish with a die cut Snowflake (see it online) and Holiday Stocking (see it online) and a little Silver Glimmer Paper (see it online).

From the side you can see that I’ve cut down the gift bag to about 6-1/2″ so the card stock tops come together nicely.  Add a Ruffled Ribbon, Designer Brad and you’re set!

This project was one of my Stamps in the Mail Club Projects from October.  You might have missed that Round, but the good news is that the NEW Round is signing up now!  Beginning in November, we’ll have a whole new 3 months of projects & tips that you can have delivered to your doorstep.  Be sure to check out the details and sign up today!

Something for Christmas: lots of things, actually

Did you know that this year’s In Colors are a GORGEOUS combination for Christmas cards?  I didn’t either, until I started playing with them for my Stamps in the Mail Club!  Don’t worry–if you missed out on Stamps in the Mail this round, the new Round will begin in November.  But for now, I’m sharing a couple of projects from the round finishing up this month.

The stamp on this card, Something for Christmas (see it online), is a single stamp from the A La Carte section of the catalog. These single stamps are definitely more than meets the eye!  This single stamp includes 3 greetings, or even more, if you use “peace” or “merry” on its own.  Plus the ornaments can be used as a line of ornaments without the greetings, or singly, or just with one greeting… so many combinations!

To get all those colors on one stamped image?  Easy!  Just use the Stampin’ Write In Color Markers (they come in a set of 5 – check them out) and color the entire stamp before you apply the stamp to card stock.

The background is dry embossed using the Big Shot (you can get a free one this month!) and the Northern Flurries Embossing Folder (see it online).

Pennant Builder Punch: Holiday Gift Box

Do you have ideas for Christmas gifts already?  How about the packaging?  Sometimes a cute gift box is just as exciting as the present inside.  Here’s one of the Stampin’ Up! Kraft Gift Boxes (great price–$2.95 for a set of 4, see them online) decorated with the Pennant Parade stamp set and the Pennant Builder Punch:

The colors on this box are all from this year’s In Color set: Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo, and Pool Party.  I’ve loved all 5 In Colors for Christmas projects… watch for more ideas that I have to share in the next couple of weeks.

The Kraft Boxes themselves are 3-1/2 x 3-1/2″ by 2-1/2″ deep.  They’re a perfect fit for cookies stamped with the new Stampin’ Up! Cookie Presses (see them online) or other crafty or sweet treats.

Curious about the embellishments on this project?  The ‘snow-frosted hills’ are done with the Dazzling Details iridescent glitter glue (quick-drying–I love it!  see it online) and the tree background is done with the Silver Glimmer Paper (see it online).

Another great perk of this project… it’s a little ‘out of the box’ (ha ha…) since the Pennant Parade stamp set has so many uses.  Be sure to check my blog for other Pennant Parade samples and Pennant Builder Punch ideas.

Fluttering By with a Pennant “Hi”

Ever use traditional products in an out-of-the-box way?  Here’s a fun card using the Pennant Parade stamp set (see it online) and the Pennant Builder Punch (see it online).

The colors on this card are Wisteria Wonder (designer series paper, stamping, brad and ribbon) and Pretty in Pink (scalloped pennants).  The body of the butterfly is done with the Word Window Punch and Pink Pirouette card stock.
