Star Bellied Sneeches…and all things Seuss

March 2, 1904: Birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel.  What’s your favorite Dr. Seuss book?  This morning Abby was supposed to wear something ‘Seuss’ to school.  And while her younger brother has several Seuss-cartoon shirts, Abby didn’t have anything specific.  So she decided to go as a Star Bellied Sneech.

We didn’t have Sylvester McMonkey McBean’s Star-On Machine, so I cut a star from green felt and we used the Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets (see them online) to attach the star to Abby’s shirt.  Here’s hoping it comes off fairly cleanly!  If I’d wanted it permanent, we could have used the Big Shot Fabric Adhesive (see it online) and ironed the star on her shirt.

If you are celebrating Dr Seuss tomorrow on Read Across America Day, try adding a star to your own yellow shirt!

I’m Twitterpated over Fabric Fun Flowers

At Stampin’ Up! events, I often like to take a little gift to share with my LovenStampfuls Demonstrator group, and I wanted to share the brooch pins that I brought for Leadership in San Antonio last month.  There were 10 of us attending (yay for a fun group!) and we had a great time.

The Twitterpated Designer Series Fabric (see it online) was cut with the Fun Flowers Die (see it online) for the Big Shot (see it online).

I added layers of old denim between the Twitterpated flowers, and the whole pin is held together by an Antique Brad (see them online).  The little Jewelry Tag Punch piece (see it online) adds an extra touch with the “friends” sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set (see it online).

Happy Stamping!

Y’all Grab Your Boots and Head On Down!

Hello from San Antonio, Texas for the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Conference!  Although we haven’t seen too many pairs of cowboy boots or heard too many Texas accents, we are thoroughly enjoying our visit to San Antonio.

Here are a few highlights of our Registration Day…  First picture is of the Make N Take session tables when we first walked in.  Yes, we get to stamp projects at Stampin’ Up! events, too!!

And not only that…there were GIFTS waiting for us at the tables!  The portfolios match our fun tote bags.  Each of these was signed by Shelli Gardner (thanks Shelli!):

The Make N Take projects were fabulous.  We all agreed that they looked even more beautiful in person than they did in the photos.  There were actually NINE projects included in our Make N Take packets — more than enough to keep us busy stamping for 2.5 hours.

Here are some LovenStampfuls Demonstrators (Mary Ellen, Faye and Betsy) and some of our demonstrator friends pausing for a scrapbook photo moment  :)

And here are two more of the Make N Take samples.

The projects featured the Twitterpated Designer Series Paper (we got a whole package in our kits!) and the Blossom Builders Designer Printed Kit (see it online), along with the Mixed Bunch stamp set (see it online).  There were even some extra samples shared for more ideas.  Here’s one of my favs:

After Make n Takes, we picked up some coffee (gotta keep the energy up for all that stamping!) and headed to the Manager’s Reception for some fabulous hors d’oeuvres and Shirley Temples with cute little umbrellas.  Here are a few of the Managers from our group: Betsy Crider, Mary Ellen Stites, Dixie Finn & myself.

Leadership is a great chance to meet and talk with many of the Stampin’ Up! corporate staff, since the venue is a little bit more intimate than the huge Stampin’ Up! Convention held during July each year.  Here’s Betsy with Rich Jutkins, the president of Stampin’ Up.

After snacks, Stampin’ Up! treated us to a fabulous Chinese acrobat show.  Wow, those were some talented artists.  There were jugglers, gymnasts, and more.  It made my stomach muscles hurt in sympathy to see some of their stunts!  They were really impressive though, and we all enjoyed the show.

And of course afterwards, what’s more fun than FREE stamps?!  Each of us received a stamp set that will appear in the Summer Mini Catalog (due out in April).  Here’s Mary Ellen — doesn’t she look excited to have her set?  Thanks Laura!

All in all, a fun, busy, full day!  And that was just Registration!  We still have two full days of conference to go, so I probably should get at least a little bit of sleep.  I’ll look forward to sharing more with you tomorrow!

Happy Stamping!

Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A (pink) Pirate’s Life for ME!

This weekend we hosted 26 little 7 & 8 year old girls….errr…PIRATES for a Pink Pirate Birthday Party! Of course the party included a chance to stamp.  For one project, the girls each decorated a Pirate Notebook with alphabet and heart stamps.

I’m still recovering, but here are a few photos from our 2 hour voyage, plus our ‘message in a bottle’ party invitations, complete with sand!

Pink Pirate Party food:

  • “Sea Brine — For Pirates Only!” (stickers on water bottles)
  • Foamy Seas  (blue jello in a clear cup with Swedish Fish and whipped cream on top)
  • Cake & Ice Cream (pre-scooped into pink muffin liners with a pirate sail toothpick on top)
  • Goldfish crackers, carrots & celery

Pink Pirate Crafts:

  • “A Pirate’s Life for Me” Notebooks
  • Pirate Treasure Chests (gotta love glue & rhinestones!)

Pink Pirate Party Games:

  • Dig for Buried Treasure (sandbox with buried beads)
  • Pin the Pirate on the Ship
  • Cannonball Pop (blow up black balloons with notes inside — “Walk like a pirate!”, “Say AARG!”

Love the font on the notebook?  I found some great free pirate fonts online.  This one is called Windlass.

Spice Cake Gift Boxes: sounds yummy to me…

Alas, there’s no actual cake involved in this project, unless of course some fabulous blog reader decides to send me cake… just saying…  But the Designer Series Paper here is the Spice Cake Designer Series Paper (see it online) from the Holiday Mini Catalog (browse online).

The stamped leaf at the top of the box is from the 2-step Gently Falling stamp set (see it online), stamped in More Mustard and Soft Suede to match the Spice Cake Designer Fabric (see it online) and the giant Spice Cake Designer Button (see it online).

The box pleat folds around the edges of the box are easy to accomplish with the help of the new Simply Scored Scoring Tool (see it online).  Each ‘box’ of the pleat is 1/4″ deep, so set up your Simply Scored and score at 1/4″, 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, 2-1/2″, 2-3/4″, 3-3/4″, 4″, 5″, etc. for the length of the paper.  Another tip — be sure to attach your Designer Series Paper to the card stock strip before you begin scoring.  That way both pieces will be scored exactly the same and folding will be easier.

Fold to create the box pleats, then adhere to your Kraft Gift Box with Sticky Strip.  Looking for more Gift Box ideas?  Be sure to check them out on my blog! (click here for ideas)

Forever Young: Top Note Tab Card

Last week I shared a notebook that I’d decorated using coordinating items from the Timeless Portrait Product Suite (see it online).  Today I have a card that uses the same set of supplies, including the Forever Young stamp set (see it online).

The card actually has a flap cut with the Top Note Die, and is covered with the Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper and has a bow from the Timeless Portrait Designer Fabric.  Did you see my project from earlier this week with a Designer Fabric bow?

To create the Top Note flap on this card, just position the Cutting Plates so that they cover only the part of the die that you want to cut.  Not making sense?  Hang in there — I’ll have a Video Tutorial to share next week!

Updated November 11: Here’s the video tutorial and here are several other Top Note Tri-Fold Card ideas!

Gently Falling: gathering fall colors

Lately whenever we walk outside, my son seems to find a fallen leaf that he absolutely MUST take home (he’s 3).  I have to admit, the colors are gorgeous and worth appreciating up close.  We’re going to have to put a bag for his treasures in the car though, because at this point we have a minivan back seat filled with semi-crushed leaves.

Here’s a card with pretty fall leaves that do not require vacuuming your car.  The leaves are from the Gently Falling stamp set in the Holiday Mini Catalog (see it online).  The fabric and colors are from the Spice Cake Designer Series Fabric (see it online).

I used 2 techniques on this card:

  1. Rock N Roll (on the leaves).  First ink your stamp with the lighter color ink (here, More Mustard).  Then take the inked stamp and gently roll the edges of the stamp around a darker color pad (Old Olive).  The stamp will pick up the ink on the edges and you end up with a wonderful two-toned image.
  2. Tile Panels.  I didn’t actually stamp 3 small pieces of card stock for this card.  Instead, to make the image look like it flows across the card stock, stamp your images all on one piece of card stock.  Then use a paper trimmer to cut the piece into 3 panels, and attach the panels to your card.

The spritz on the background is the Log Cabin Smooch Spritz (see it online), which gives the card a nice texture, plus a little hint of glitz (since the spray is metallic).  Finally, the “happy thanksgiving” is from my favorite greetings set, Teeny Tiny Wishes (see it online).  Definitely, this is a set that I use all the time.

Forever Young: A Shabby Chic Notebook Gift

Looking for fun Christmas gifts to make?  Here’s one where your time and love show through, even though the cost is easily affordable.  Step 1: Pick up a composition book on clearance at a big-box store (mine was $0.10).  Step 2: Decorate with the Forever Young stamp set (see it online) and items from the Timeless Portrait Product Suite (pages 78-79 in the Stampin’ Up! catalog  — click here to download or click here to browse the suite online).

I love the products in this Suite, and I love how easy Stampin’ Up! makes it to pick coordinating items for a fabulous end product.  Here are the ones I used here:

  • Timeless Portrait Designer Fabric
  • Timeless Portrait Designer Series Paper
  • Forever Young stamp set
  • Antique Brads
  • Vintage Trinkets
  • Victoria Crochet Trim
  • Champagne Glass Stampin’ Glitter

I have to say that until I sat down and played with them, I didn’t know how much I loved this color scheme!  The colors here are River Rock, Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black.  LOVE it!

Or are you a Digital papercrafter?  This is a great project to create digitally — the products in the Timeless Portrait Suite are also available as Digital Downloads for My Digital Studio.  And to make it even easier, you can order them all together as part of the Avant Garde Collection DVD (see it online).

So grab a few notebooks and start creating — this project is a fun vintage-y, collage mix of fabric, paper and trinkets.

Happy Stamping!

Founder’s Circle Day 3: Zion National Park to The Little Mermaid

Still here in southern Utah for the Stampin’ Up! Founder’s Circle 2011 Trip!  Today was another great day to be outdoors!  I’ll have to share more with you when I get my pictures, but for now, here’s a shot of the Narrows in Zion National Park.  The Narrows is the deepest and narrowest canyon in the world–there are some deeper, and some narrower, but none deeper AND narrower.  We hiked about 2.5 miles up the river and back down again, and yes, we walked through water up to chest deep with our backpacks held over our head.  More on that when I have some fun pictures to show!

After our Narrows trip, we headed back for a wonderful dinner at our hotel and then grabbed our buckets of candy and popcorn from last night’s Pillow Gift.  We boarded buses for Tuacahn, which is a gorgeous outdoor amphitheater here in St. George (photo courtesy Tuacahn).  Stampin’ Up! took us to see Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and the show was wonderful!  There were puppets, incredible costumes and of course all the fun songs from the Disney movie.

Hard to believe it was nearly midnight when we returned to our hotel again… to find ANOTHER fun Pillow Gift waiting for us!  I absolutely love tonight’s gift…  it features the Beau Chateau Designer Fabric (see it online). Isn’t it a cute apron?  I can’t wait to wear mine!

Whew, okay, more tomorrow, but for now I need to catch up on a few hours of sleep!

Happy Stamping!
