Mixed Techniques: Poppin’ Pastels plus Rock N Roll
Poppin’ Pastels is an OLD technique – and very simple:
- Stamp in Versamark ink
- Swirl a Sponge Dauber in a Stampin’ Pastel color
- Pounce onto the stamped image.
It always used to bother me that the edges of the stamped image ended up a little bit wishy washy. I’m embarrassed to say that when I pulled out my Stampin Pastels (see them online) for this project, they were still sealed! I used to use them all the time, but somehow my new set had at least 2 birthdays before getting opened. (eek!)
But with this NEW twist on Poppin’ Pastels, I think I’m going to be seeing my Pastels much more regularly again. By adding the Rock N Roll technique, I made the edges of the image well-defined and the finished image looks much cleaner. The Tea Shoppe stamp set (see it online) has the perfect stamp for this combo technique, too!
Here are some tips for using Rock N Roll and Poppin’ Pastels together:
- Use a bold image stamp (not great for line art)
- Ink the stamp first with Versamark, then rock the darker ink around the edges to keep your Versamark pad clean.
- Remember to pounce (not wipe) with your Sponge Dauber to keep the ink from smearing.
- If you don’t get enough color on your image, try mooshing (yes, a technical term) the Dauber more in the Stampin’ Pastel.
A couple other things about this card from my April session of Stamp Club with Meg:
- Yes, that’s a tea bag! The piece of Twitterpated Designer Paper makes a little pocket to hold the bag in place. Use Sticky Strip at the two ends to hold it tight.
- I love the Paper Doily Sizzlit (see it online). It helps to have a few tips on making it work easily.
- It’s easier to stamp on the back side of the Mini Vintage Tags (see them online). I used Staz-On ink here to keep the image from smearing.
Happy Stamping (and tea drinking)!

Clean & Simple: Fifth Avenue Floral
Have you looked at the Note Cards & Envelopes in the Stampin’ Up! catalog? (see them online) I am completely addicted to these (more ideas on my blog). They’re clean, ready-to-stamp and I don’t even have to find envelopes to match them — they’re in the package!
This card features the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set (see it online):
Do you love the Elegant Thank You? It’s one of the A La Carte stamps that come singly instead of in a set (see a few online).

Clean & Simple: Upsy Daisy Thanks
It’s coming soon… the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog debuts on June 1st. And in order to make room for the new stamp sets (yay!!) they’ll have to retire a good number of the current ones (boo hoo!). Who knows what will retire? Anyone can guess, but the list will come out on April 15th, so watch for it here on my blog.
Have any guesses about what will be going? I’m wondering about Upsy Daisy (see it online). It’s one of my favorite all-time sets, but it’s been around awhile… here’s a Clean & Simple card idea that makes the most of this gorgeous stamp set.
The card is Very Vanilla card stock with a Very Vanilla layer… gotta love Stampin’ Dimensionals to make it stand up! The greeting is from the very versatile Sincere Salutations stamp set (see it online). It’s like a magic stamp set… with two type faces on each greeting, it matches a wide variety of styled stamp sets.
And the technique on the silhouette is a simple Rock N Roll, simple as 1-2-3:
- Just ink the whole stamp in More Mustard first
- Then rock just the edges of the stamp on a Cajun Craze ink pad
- Stamp on your card stock, and voila!
Here are some other cards with the Upsy Daisy stamp set on my blog.
Know what else will be retiring? The whole Decor Element product line, including the Upsy Daisy Decor Elements (my favorites!). Click here to browse the Decor Elements online now.
Got a guess for a retiring stamp set? Leave me your guesses in a comment! Can’t wait to see if we’re right, or if we get to hang onto this fun stamp set for another year.
Happy Stamping!

Bright Blossoms Blooming for Spring
I don’t know about where you live, but here, SUMMER was here yesterday! I couldn’t believe the heat wave in the afternoon, and I think we’ve already mowed the grass 3 times this year. Sunny days make me think of sunny stamping, so here is the First Card of Summer to share with you, using the Bright Blossoms stamp set (see it online) that will be available only in April, and then again when the new catalog debuts on June 1st.
The card base is actually 5-3/8″ x 5-3/8″, so it’s a little bigger than normal. Fortunately, Stampin’ Up! carries gorgeous Whisper White Envelopes in a medium square size (see them here). Just remember that it will cost an extra $0.20 to mail these, since they have to be hand canceled. Oh, and with the brad, well, it’s going to be that $0.20 extra anyway.
The stamp set is one of the items on the Summer Smooches Sneak Peek, available in April (browse it online). The Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper definitely brings summer to my mind.
The flowers in the Bright Blossoms stamp set are a lot of fun — think Stampin’ Write Markers and use the Marker-to-Stamp technique to add multi-colors to your stamping projects.
Can you see the brad close up on this card? I’m a huge fan of these — they are Fabric Covered Designer Brads (see them online) that match the colors in the Summer Smooches Suite.
Finally, this card has a Vellum Card Stock layer (see it online) that is attached behind the designer paper. Vellum is a great way to add interest or to add a feeling of lightness to a project.
If you’re looking for the items in the Product Suite, here’s a list:

This card is based on the Note Cards & Envelopes (see them online) which come 20 to a pack, for only $5.95 (pretty nice, plus they’re convenient to have on hand). Apothecary Art: QuickER Cards for the Occasion
Yesterday I shared an Apothecary Art card that was pretty speedy — but today’s card is even quicker. It features the Note Card & Envelopes (see them online) and the Apothecary Art stamp set (see it online).
The coloring is quick & easy, plus there is a fun trick to use a Square Punch to make the ends of your paper banner (the trick is on my latest Video Tutorial).

Apothecary Art: Quick Cards for any occasion
Did you catch my Video Tutorial on the Apothecary Art stamp set and the Labels Collection Framelits last week? (check it out now) Well here’s a Quick Card that still uses the Apothecary Art stamp set (see it online), and the Framelits (see them online), but on an even simpler card background.
Isn’t the background color pretty on this card? The color is Blushing Bride from the 2010-2012 In Color Collection. Keep in mind that these 5 colors will be GONE after May 31st when the current catalog retires. If you want to have them in your collection, be sure to get them now!
