Is that Rudolph, Disguised as an Owl?
Yes, the 2-Step Owl Punch is a fabulous tool (check it out) and I’ve really enjoyed adding owls to some of my recent projects, but did you know that the owl body makes a great reindeer face, too?
There is no end to the number of creative uses you can find for this punch shape. Fortunately though, here’s a Christmas idea that you can copy easily.
Here are the other pieces that you’ll need, all from Stampin’ Up!:
- 2-Step Bird Punch (for the antlers–check it out)
- Big Shot Circles #2 Die (for the chipboard circle you can’t see and the Designer Series Paper circle that you can see)
- 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch
- Jewelry Tag Punch
- Small Heart Punch
- Chipboard Long Board (to make the magnet base stronger)
- White Gel Pen (for eye highlights)
Finally, I used my favorite Tombow Multiadhesive (see it in the catalog) to glue the ceramic magnet to the back of the chipboard circle and to add the layers on the Owl Punch.

Ack! I Need a Quick Christmas Treat!
Close your eyes (or at least squint, so you can still read my blog) and picture yourself all dressed up to go out to a Christmas party. (Go ahead, it’s your imagination–add the sweater you want to buy and subtract the 15 pounds you think you need to lose.)
Wait…where’s your hostess gift? Ack! Did you forget it? Okay, take a deep breath and spend the next 5 minutes stamping a quick treat to take along:
These little treats use the Bigz Candy Wrapper Die for the Big Shot Die Cut Machine (check it out in my online catalog).
Have you seen my Video Tutorial on using the Candy Wrapper Die? Definitely check it out–since you’re trying to run out the door to your party, watching the Video will save you a few minutes on getting the boxes assembled
The rest of the stamping is simple — just stamp the scallop snowflake image from the Sweet Season stamp set and punch with the 1-1/4″ Circle Punch, then stamp again and punch with the Scallop Circle Punch.
The Old Olive circle in between the two was punched with the 1-3/8″ Circle Punch.
Add a Basic Jewel Rhinestone (sticky–yay!) and you’re ready to head to your holiday party!

Have a Cute Christmas: Stampin’ Write
What does a ‘cute‘ Christmas look like? I’m picturing little teeny weeny snowmen with little buttons and lots of rick-rack from the Tasteful Trim Big Shot Die. Maybe add some pastel colors? It might look something like this:
Turns out the Candy Cane Christmas Designer Series Paper is a perfect fit for this Cute Christmas stamp set. Ha ha… no surprise there, since Stampin’ Up! is the master at coordinating products. Even the Big Designer Buttons come in Candy Cane colors.
For the image in this stamp set, I used three different Stampin’ Write Markers. I used the brush tip on each marker to color directly onto the rubber of the stamp, then I stamped onto the card stock to make all three images at the same time, using different ink colors.
Pretty nifty, right? If you’re interested in a Stampin’ Write Marker Club, be sure to let me know!
**Meg’s Marker Club** is a great way to get:
- All the Markers (38 colors from the Subtles, Regals, Brights and Neutrals family PLUS the 5 In Color Markers)

Stamping with Chocolate: Candy Ornaments
Because stamping is fun, but stamping with chocolate is better…
This quick holiday treat takes very little material and very little time to create because the Stampin’ Up! punches are the perfect complement to the images in the Tags Til Christmas stamp set. Plus the Tags Til Christmas bundle is part of the ABCs of Handmade Holidays special going on right now!
These little ornaments are simple:
- Stamp the ornament image from Tags Til Christmas in Cherry Cobbler ink and punch using the Ornament Punch.
- Punch a set of matching ornaments from the Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper (part of the Contempo Christmas ABC Bundle!)
Attach one stamped ornament and one Designer Paper ornament to the front and back of each wrapped peppermint patty- Slide all 3 ornaments into a Medium Cello Bag and tie with a length of Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Tape
- Ink the pine bough image from the Tags Til Christmas stamp set with Always Artichoke and Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Markers, then punch with the matching Decorative Label Punch
- Layer with a Designer Series Paper punched decorative label piece and attach to cello bag with a Stampin’ Dimensional

Bling for Backpacks: Designer Jewels Black Flourish
(I’m off to St. George, Utah today for the Stampin’ Up! Founder’s Circle Trip! Watch for more posts this week and don’t miss yesterday’s Swap Card Saga!)
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…
I don’t know about your kids, but around here it’s really popular to have a collection of keychains hanging from the back of your school backpack.
Sometimes I think the blob of keychains weighs more than the books inside the backpack.
But what’s one more tag, right? This one with the Designer Jewels Black Flourish is going to be a favorite for my daughter. Here are the reasons:
- it’s a tag
- it’s got BLING factor
- it’s themed for Halloween
I’ve created a Video Tutorial for this project. Using the Flourish Jewels is fairly simple, but sometimes it helps to just see something in action when it’s new. You’re going to love these Jewels and all the possibilities!

Founder’s Circle or Bust: 135 Swap Cards are Ready
I’m nearly ready!! This week I’m off to St. George, Utah for the Stampin’ Up! Founder’s Circle Retreat. Each year Stampin’ Up! invites the top 100 Demonstrators for a 5-day all-expenses paid trip to relax and refresh. This year I was fortunate to be named as the #13 Demonstrator of the Year, out of more than 40,000 demonstrators. And I’m really excited to be heading to beautiful Southern Utah this week!
Keep an eye out–I’ll be posting highlights from the trip each day. In addition to the Stampin’ Up! activities, I have plans to do some hiking and rock climbing (did you see my pictures from last year?)
I admit that I’m not quite as organized as last year, when I started my scrapbook with My Digital Studio before I even left (check that out). But I do have this year’s swaps ready to go! I used the Felt Pad Technique that I shared last week.
If you’d like to check out past Founder’s Circle highlights that I’ve posted on my blog, here are some posts from Founder’s Circle 2009 and Founder’s Circle 2008. My blog wasn’t around for the Founder’s Circle 2007 trip, so I’ll have to save those pictures for future posts.
So off to St. George this week..I’m sure this year will be just as fabulous as in the past, and I look forward to sharing my photos!

Creepy Crawly iPhones: Spooky Things Decor Elements
My daughter is not afraid of anything creepy or crawly. I’m not sure how that happened, but I’m glad. Yesterday at our Daisy Girl Scout meeting, my daughter picked up a furry caterpillar to show the girls in the troop. Reactions varied from, “isn’t that cool,” to high-pitched squeals.
So I suppose I’m trying to take a page from her book and embrace the creepy crawlies. Check out my new iPhone case, covered with Decor Elements from the Spooky Things package in the Holiday Mini Catalog:
Definitely spooky. And definitely a departure from the very *pretty* Upsy Daisy Decor Element that had been on my iPhone until my Spooky Things arrived! (check out that blog post)

Fang-Tastic Candy Wrapper Ideas
Halloween headed your way? Looking for Fang-Tastic ways to dress up your candy bars? Here’s a fun and quick idea to get into the spidery spirit of the holiday.
Grab your Spider Web Embossing Folder for the Big Shot and emboss your way to fancier candy. Lurking under the paper wrapping of these bars is a normal Hershey’s bar… not very fancy. But with this wrapper, everyone will be clamoring to get one of your bars!
This is a fairly easy project:
- Cut Pumpkin Pie card stock to 5.5 x 6.5 inches and dry emboss using the Spider Web Textured Impressions Folder with your Big Shot (new in the Holiday Mini Catalog)
- Use Sticky Strip along one long edge and the two short edges of the card stock, then wrap around the chocolate bar. Use your Crimper to add crimps to ends
- Add “bling” at one end with a Glimmer Brad in Basics
- Stamp and watercolor the little witch from the Fang-Tastic stamp set (Holiday Mini Catalog), then punch the image with the NEW 2-1/2″ Circle Punch (Holiday Mini Catalog)
- Stamp the “witch way to the candy” greeting and punch with the Word Window Punch
Loving the simple version above? Ready for MORE “fang-tastic” bling? Check out this stepped-up version!
Added elements (there’s always “one more thing” with my projects!):
- Raven 1/2″ Lace Trim
- Waffle Paper (assortment 2)
- Silver Glass Glitter
- Inked Spider Web embossed design
I’ve been having so much fun with the medallion on this project… you can have fun with it, too! Head on over for Stamp Club (Mahomet, Illinois) tonight, and make the “Halloween BLING” version of this project to take home! Or contact me to book a home party and you and your guests can all make the Speedy Stamper version to take home!

Custom Felt Pads: Day of Gratitude
You may have used Stampin’ Write Markers to ink your stamp in multiple colors, but did you know that you can use regular craft felt with your Classic Pad Ink Refills to make Custom Ink Pads, too?
The **Custom Felt Pad** technique is easy:
- Outline your stamp on a piece of craft felt with a pen
- Drip ink from the Refill bottle onto the felt until the saturation point. Use as many colors as you like beginning with the light colors first and filling in dark colors last.
- Gently ink stamp on felt pad and stamp as normal
(optional) keep your custom felt pad on an absorbent ceramic tile while you stamp and reink, to keep the ink from pooling behind the felt and mixing as you reink your custom pad
This technique is great for when you are making several of the same card and don’t want to use your Stampin’ Write Markers to ink a stamp 50 or 100 times.
I used the technique here to stamp the medallions in the background of this card. Day of Gratitude is one of the fabulous new stamp sets available in the Holiday Mini Catalog (browse here).

Like the scallop trim on this card? It’s from the Tasteful Trim Big Shot Die (I think it’s aptly named!) in the Holiday Mini Catalog.
If you’re in the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois area, join me for Stamp Club this week! (tonight actually!!) We’ll be making this card as one of our projects.
Check out some recent technique ideas on my blog…
